On the road again, St. Louis, Part II

OK, so there were so many photos I had to break it into two posts.

From where we parked for the trolley ride, we walked to the Gateway Arch National Park.   A trolley tour is a great to see a city and to learn little secrets stories about the city.

We approached the Gateway Arch from the east/river side.

Ground of the park with the river to our back.

The entrance to the underground entrance and great museum to the arch.   Unfortunately, there is not much signage and this is not visible from the riverside where we approached.   We could find the exits at the base of each arch but no way to get in.    Lots of getting our steps in for the day and walking to the other side of the park.

The museum was great, citing the history of the design and build of the arch as well as the history of St. Louis and Missouri.

With our pre-purchased tickets, we got in line and entered our ‘pod’ to the top.   Five seats were snugged inside and if you are claustrophobic, don’t try it.

Looking east across the Mississippi River.    I think the shadow of the arch on the river is cool.   It is pretty much “my” shadow since I was in the top of the arch.

Looking west, Busch Stadium

This is inside at the top of the arch.  As you can see, you kind of lay over the window sills/ledges to see out the windows.

Center of the arch marking how high we were.

Looking west to the Courthouse

Looking west at the skyline

This is the view down about 20 stairs, to re-enter our pod for our return trip downstairs.

Our view as we left the Gateway Arch

Beautiful park grounds surround the arch.

Cute architecture of the city.

A great Mexican dinner and we were off to find a hotel west of St. Louis.    We did not book any rooms ahead of time not knowing how far we would get.

There is so much more to include about St. Louis,   Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I remember to add all the other good things we saw and learned.

More to come, stay tuned.

  1. More great pictures!
The trip up the arch looks great, but I would have to stay on the ground, I get light headed with heights!

Thanks is much for stopping by. I so enjoy your comments even if I do not always reply. Have a great day that hopefully includes a bit of stitching.
